Brazil beef exports recover in June year-on-year after March meat scandal
Brazil's beef exports recovered in June year-on-year from the food safety scandal that erupted in March, which knocked down April exports by 18.5 percent and May exports by 10.3 percent compared to the same months last year.
Beef exports in June 2017 were up 1.1 percent on the same month last year, according to data from industry body Abrafrigo.
Brazil's beef exports are now expected to rise to 1.5 million tonnes this year, up 10 percent from 2016, according to estimates from Agroconsult in August. The consultancy firm had initially expected beef exports to rise by 20 percent in 2017.Â
The food safety scandal in March lowered export forecasts and disrupted the industry as a whole, Agroconsult told Reuters.Â
