Dubai Airport Freezone’s second halal industry guide is out. Here’s why you need it

Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZA) released the second edition of its Halal Guide on Wednesday (September 9).

Here are eight reasons why your halal business needs the guidebook:

  1. The United Arab Emirates has 45 freezones but only one that has a dedicated halal centre. The Halal Trade and Marketing Center (HTMC) at DAFZA, established in October 2018, functions as a one-stop shop for halal product manufacturers, suppliers and distributors to access market intelligence, halal compliance information, and support services such as training programs, business set-up, sales and marketing.
  2. HTMC’s home base, DAFZA, contributed 12% to Dubai’s foreign trade of 1.37 trillion dirhams ($373 billion) in 2019, up from 11.2% the year before. (By comparison, its shipping counterpart, the Jebel Ali Freezone (JAFZA) that serves the seaport, generated trade worth $99.5 billion in 2019. Shipping is responsible for carrying around 90% of world trade.)
  3. The guidebook explains the halal certification process for halal F&B exported and/or imported to UAE.
  4. It shows you how to set up your business in Dubai and provides a checklist of documents you need for initial approval.
  5. It gives you the steps to set up in DAFZA, by explaining the six types of licenses and different company types.
  6. It lists the benefits of registering your business in a freezone, like VAT exemption and 100% repatriation of capital and profits.
  7. It breaks down the office packages available at DAFZA, including lease types.
  8. It shows you the other facilities available for your business, such as light industrial units.
