Dubai to re-open businesses May 27 after weeks of restrictions to contain spread of COVID-19

Businesses in Dubai can reopen from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Wednesday (May 27), Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chair of the Executive Council, announced on Monday.

The Dubai Media Office followed the Crown Prince’s announcement with details of which economic activities will resume on Wednesday.

Retail and wholesale businesses are free to operate between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., including indoor gyms, sports clubs, entertainment and leisure attractions, and cinemas.

Social distancing must still be adhered to, and masks are compulsory at all times.

For the food retail sector, only single-use utensils are allowed. All restaurants and cafes in Dubai halted dining-in services on March 23. They had the option of reopening on April 24 if they followed certain conditions, including physical distancing and operating at only 30% seating capacity.

Airports will operate for returning UAE residents and transit passengers. Everyone coming into Dubai from abroad must undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Dubai had earlier, on April 28, allowed malls to partially reopen with precautions in place.
