Egypt launches initiative for environmental sustainability in villages
Published 14 Feb,2021 via Daily News Egypt - Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, and Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Nabila Makram have launched a new initiative in the village of Saft Turab in Gharbeya governorate.
The initiative comes as part of the “A Decent Life” and “Your Good Assets” initiatives, and aims to develop Egyptian villages into eco-friendly areas, and spread the concept of environmental sustainability.
The two ministers visited Saft Turab to inspect the areas targeted by the project to upgrade their efficiency and spread the concept of environmental sustainability as part of the presidential “Prepare for Green” initiative.
The project aims to provide roofing for around 50 houses in the village during the next six months. This comes in addition to supplying the family medicine unit in the village with all the monthly medical supplies for the upcoming six months, and which will be extended according to the unit’s demands.
The project will also support the village’s youth and establish the Saft Turab Charitable Association to help its youth and contribute to the development plans in the village.
The project is studying methods of effectively collecting and distributing solar energy to meet the villagers’ needs. Another study is being prepared on how to convert roves over homes into efficient areas that are suitable for generating renewable solar energy. The project also includes ​​building a new system for treating and recycling waste, in addition to designing protocols for collecting, analysing and purifying drinking water.
A training course will be prepared to qualify young people and prepare youth cadres on the ground to carry out the development plan in the village.
Saft Turab will be the first model village illustrating the possibility of transforming Egypt’s villages and urban areas into sustainable environmental systems. It will have all the tools necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and dependence on the resources available in the site.
The project aims to employ new technologies to provide clean and renewable energy, clean drinking water, clean air, and food ingredients.
