Japanese Muslim halal-certified skincare company eyes Indonesia, Mideast after Malaysia launch

Japan-based PBJ Inc plans to introduce its halal-certified Momohime skincare range in Indonesia in April after launching the line in Malaysia early this month, its director Mariya Mieko Kobayashi told Salaam Gateway.

Momohime is halal-certified by the Japan Islamic Trust, which was recognised as a foreign halal certification body by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in February.

According to Kobayashi, Momohime products are manufactured in Japan using equipment that meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards in an ISO 9001 certified factory.

The company intends to focus on the Malaysian and Indonesian markets first before moving on to the Middle East, said Kobayashi.

The line is available to Singapore customers via online retailer Lazada.

The year-old range includes foaming face wash, moisture lotion, moisture gel cream and white essence. Kobayashi says make-up remover, BB cream with UV care, and special beauty cream will be included in future roll-outs, depending on market demand.
