Low-cost airline flydubai to restart commercial flights July 7

Low-cost airline flydubai will restart commercial flights on July 7 when Dubai officially starts allowing tourists back in following just over three months of restrictions due to the novel coronavirus.

Flydubai stopped flying on March 24 when flight restrictions were put in place by UAE authorities as part of measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19.

The airline, owned by the Dubai government, will initially fly to 24 destinations before picking up speed to 66 over the summer, said the Dubai Media Office on Wednesday (June 24).

The destinations will depend on the countries being able to open up and accept international travel.

The 24 initial destinations are: Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Almaty, Amman, Baku, Beirut, Belgrade, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Isfahan, Juba, Kabul, Khartoum, Kiev, Krakow, Lar, Nur-Sultan, Prague, Sarajevo, Shiraz, Sofia, Tblisi, Tehran, and Yerevan.

The airline’s chief commercial officer Hamad Obaidalla said it has “redesigned” its passenger journey to “minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19”.

The airline that last year flew 9.6 million passengers earned 6 billion dirhams ($1.6 billion) in revenue, down 2.6% from 2018. Its profit reached 198.2 million dirhams ($53.9 million), it reported in March.
