Malaysian halal food delivery app Ode Jee forms consortium with eight companies
Malaysian halal food delivery app Ode Jee has signed a partnership with eight companies to form the Ode Halal.Asia consortium, local media reported on Wednesday (Dec 23).
State news agency Bernama reported the eight companies as Mars Global Sdn Bhd, Holistic Labs Sdn Bhd, JT Lab Sdn Bhd, AR Mechatronics Plt Ltd, IM Digital Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma), OSB Global Resources Sdn Bhd, and JME Resources Sdn Bhd.
The consortium will work on product and app development, said Bernama citing Ode Jee chairperson Ismail Alwasi Khan.
It will also organise courses and produce more new entrepreneurs for the halal industry, said the report.
The aim of the partnership is also to explore new opportunities beyond its home state of Johor and Malaysia to the Asian region.
Ode Jee currently has about 1,200 vendors throughout the southern state of Johor and more than 200 food deliver riders, according to Bernama.
The consortium comes at a time when Johor, which borders Singapore, is pivoting from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The state's Chief Minister Hasni Mohammad told Singapore's CNA on Dec 19 that the state is keen to develop its agriculture sector and position itself as a key food exporter to Singapore.
COVID-19 closed the land border between Singapore and Malaysia, impacting retail businesses in Johor as shoppers from the city state have been kept away. The closure has also impacted the estimated more than 300,000 Malaysians who travel into Singapore as daily commuters to take up jobs or attend school.
