Modest fashion brand Boohoo launches summer line with graduate student
Boohoo linked up with Graduate Fashion Week in October 2021 to create a competition to find talented designers to develop a sustainable fashion line, Retail Gazette UK reported. In February, Sameera Mohmed from the University of Central Lancashire, in the UK, was announced as the winner. Her line focuses on modest clothing and sustainability. Mohmed will be mentored by Boohoo’s design manager to develop the fashion line which will be launched in June.
Islamic children’s cartoons Little Ammar and Mina Mila air on Malaysian TV
Islamic-themed cartoons Little Ammar and Mina Mila, launched by Durioo this year, are airing on Malaysia’s TV9 network, New Straits Times reported. Little Ammar is a three minute cartoon. It is the “CoComelon for Muslims kids,” Sinan Ismail, Durioo’s founder and CEO, told Salaam Gateway in 2021. Ammar has a pet rabbit and twin sisters, with the content related to Islamic values. Mina & Mila is based on Little Ammar’s sisters, and is aimed at five to nine year old girls. “The show is about identical twins with different personalities going through their daily life that understand that together is better, even if they have differences,” said Sinan.
Aga Khan Museum and TVO to bring out Season 2 of podcast ‘This Being Human’
This Being Human, the Aga Khan Museum’s curiosity-stoking interview podcast, returns on February 22, 2022 with more stirring conversations to transport listeners around the world and beyond, Digital Journal and GlobeNewswire reported. Presented in partnership with TVO, Season 2 will feature 21 new episodes and be available on streaming services. Bolstered by the success of This Being Human’s ground-breaking first season, the Museum has partnered with media and education leader, TVO, to expand the podcast’s impact and reach. This Being Human features a diverse mosaic of captivating guests with distinctive insights on Muslim art, culture, history and society. These conversations will touch upon everything from prayer and pilgrimage to politics and pop culture, love and education, feminism, film, sports, music, and so much more. This Being Human, launched in January 2021, celebrates the diversity and wide-ranging impact of changemakers deeply engaged with what it means to be Muslim.
'Islamic Art – An African Interpretation' exhibition held in South Africa
The Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, in collaboration with the South African Foundation for Islamic Art (Safia) launched a new exhibition, “Islamic Art – An African Interpretation”. It is the first of a series of exhibitions “aimed at reimagining and repositioning this mid-18th century home,” IOL reported.
The exhibition showcases the works of South African Islamic artists, including artist and founder of Safia, Achmat Soni. His artwork has graced “the domes and mihrabs of over 70 mosques in South Africa. He has painted more than 1 000 Islamic artworks across the country,” the outlet report. Soni’s work is also at the Malaysian Islamic Art Museum and the University of Iran.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston invests $3.5 million to expand Islamic art galleries
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), in Texas, is expanding its Islamic art galleries through a $3.5 million expansion, reported the Art Newspaper. The project will double the size of gallery space devoted to Islamic art, to 6,000 square feet (557 square metres). There will also be a courtyard reflecting the architectural traditions of Islamic gardens. The museum holds some 1,400 Islamic artworks.
