India’s first Islamic art gallery to open in 2023
An Islamic art gallery, the country’s first, is to open at the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad next year. It is to house 2,500 objects, ranging from archery rings worn by 17th century Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to rare Qurans, rosaries and 700 manuscripts, reported the Hindustan Times. The gallery is to be spread over 15,000 square feet.
Muslim Shopping Festival opens in London
After a three year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sixth edition of the London Muslim Shopping Festival opens this weekend in the British capital. The event includes more than 250 stalls and exhibitors showcasing food, fashion and lifestyle products. The festival includes a cookery theatre, sponsored by Tariq Halal, and a food court in association with the London Halal Food Festival, reported Asian Image. The Modanisa London Fashion Week will show the latest trends in modest fashion.
UAE’s Zayed House for Islamic Culture launches programmes for Muslim converts
The Zayed House for Islamic Culture (ZHIC) launched Islamic culture courses in 12 languages in Al Ain and at branches in Abu Dhabi and Ajman. The initiative is to introduce Islamic culture and help assimilate new converts, reported the Khaleej Times. Courses include five levels of 70 hours in total, and will be taught in Arabic, English, Russian, French, Mandarin, Tagalog, Amharic, Urdu and Sinhalese. “Through such courses, ZHIC endeavours to instil not only spiritual, moral and social meanings, but also to promote the values of compassion and coexistence with the diverse existing human cultures," an official from ZHIC is quoted as saying.
French fashion house Louis Vuitton releases first Ramadan collection
Louis Vuitton has followed in the footsteps of other brands by releasing a ready-to-wear Ramadan collection as well as a fragrance, Fleur du Desert. The collection is based around emerald green and the theme “love, peace, and prosperity” to reflect the holy month, reported Arab News.
UK exhibition showcases emerging Muslim female talent
The 'In Praise' exhibition was launched at Leicester’s Belvoir Art Gallery, featuring 10 artists showcasing contemporary Islamic art, ranging from Arabic calligraphy to Islamic geometry, embroidery, textiles and abstract styles, reported the BBC.
