No Ramadan tents, iftar gatherings in Dubai this year
Ramadan gatherings in Dubai this year will be hit due to COVID-19 precautionary measures.
State news agency WAM reported on Tuesday (March 2) the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) as saying that all permits for Ramadan tents, majlises and iftar gatherings were cancelled to comply with government precautionary measures.
IACAD has also banned the distribution of food as charity during the fasting month. This can only be done if in collaboration with charities that are approved and licensed by IACAD, and following COVID-19 precautionary measures.
Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management at the end of February extended COVID-19 restrictions until the start of Ramadan in mid-April. Restrictions include 50% maximum capacity for indoor venues such as cinemas, and restaurants and cafes must close by 1am.
New COVID-19 cases in the United Arab Emirates reached 2,692 on Wednesday (March 3), taking the total number of recorded cases to 399,463.
The country’s Ministry of Health and Prevention is continuing to vaccinate the population. It said the total number of doses provided up to March 3 was 6,168,330 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 62.37 doses per 100 people.
