Now playing: Saudi Film Festival starts streaming on YouTube


The 6th Saudi Film Festival starts on YouTube on Tuesday (September 1).

This year’s six-day festival will screen 54 films and live broadcasts of workshops, seminars and panel sessions with filmmakers. Five symposia will tackle Saudi Arabia's film industry and its future, according to state news agency SPA.

 

There will also be the annual competition component, covering four categories: feature film, documentary, student film, and script under development.

Chair: Saudi theatre and film actor, and film producer Ibrahim Al-Hassawi

Members:

  • Rasmus Prendstrup from Denmark who created and organises the annual film festival “Arabian Nights” in Copenhagen
  • Colette Nofal from Lebanon, who is a director and has been Director of the Beirut International Film Festival since 1997

Chair: Filmmaker and cinematographer Philippe Cordy, vice president of the Swiss Cinematographer Association

Members:

  • Saudi director, writer and producer Ali Al-Samin
  • Irfan Rasheed from Iraq, a journalist and director
STUDENT FILM (16 films entered) SCRIPT UNDER DEVELOPMENT (177 entered)

Chair: Writer and filmmaker Hana Al-Omair from Saudi Arabia

Members:

  • UAE writer Adel Khouzam, who was member of the jury of the Dubai Film Festival 2017
  • Francine Wirt from Switzerland, who has served as jury member in several African film festivals across Europe and Africa

Chair: Saudi screenwriter Mafrej Al-Mujfal

Members:

  • Writer Abdullah Al-Safir from Saudi Arabia
  • Egyptian writer Waheed Al Tawila

 

 

 

The festival is organised by the Culture and Arts Association in Dammam in partnership with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran.

The event is one of the programmes under the National Initiative for the Development of the Saudi Film Industry.
