Ramadan 2020: Saudi religious scholars urge Muslims to pray taraweeh at home, avoid communal iftar and suhoor
Saudi Arabia's General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars has urged Muslims to take precautionary and preventive measures when performing acts of worship amid the continuing spread of COVID-19.
State news agency SPA reported on Sunday (Apr 19) the General Secretariat as saying Muslims should follow the health measures directed by authorities in their respective countries to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Ramadan's taraweeh prayers, said the report, should be performed at home if so recommended by authorities, and gatherings should be avoided, including communal iftar and suhoor meals.
Many countries, including Saudi Arabia and its neighbours in the Gulf, have closed mosques and banned gatherings to curb the spread of COVID-19.
