Saudi Arabia signs agreement with IATA to set up office, regional HQ to stay in Amman

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation has signed an agreement with the International Air Transport Association to establish an office in the Kingdom, reported state news agency SPA on Tuesday (July 6).

The agreement is in line with Saudi Arabia's interest and support for regional and international civil aviation organizations, said SPA.

IATA is the trade association for the world's airlines. It represents around 290 airlines, equivalent to about 82% of total air traffic.

The Canada-headquartered association told Salaam Gateway on Wednesday (July 7) that its regional headquarters, for Africa and the Middle East, will remain in Amman in Jordan.

"IATA is strengthening its presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by establishing a new office in the Kingdom," IATA said.

"IATA is committed to supporting the development of aviation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and contributing towards realizing the vision of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman  to turn the kingdom into a global aviation hub over the coming years," the association added.
