Saudi IP agency to fast-track patents assessment for priority sectors, including tech for hajj and umrah
The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property has launched a fast-track programme to accelerate the examination of patents in specific priority sectors.
State news agency SPA reported on Wednesday (March 3) the priority sectors are those aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 released in 2016 that maps the country’s move away from its dependence on hydrocarbons.
The fast-track programme targets inventors and products of potential economic value to the Kingdom.
The IP authority will prioritise the assessment of patents for technologies related to hajj and umrah, and the environment, as well as those that address the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, pandemics and the spread of infectious diseases.
SAIP runs a handful of programmes that fast-track the examining of patents, including with the Korean Office KIPO, the Japanese Office JPO, the U.S. Patent Office and Trademark, and the National Authority for Intellectual Property of the People’s Republic of China.
