Which Islamic countries import the most beef, chicken from Brazil?

Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are big importers of beef and chicken from Brazil. 

BEEF

The ten OIC countries that imported the most frozen beef from Brazil accounted for 22 percent of the South American country's total beef exports for the first ten months of 2017, according to Salaam Gateway calculation of data from industry body Abrafrigo. 

Iran's and Egypt's frozen beef imports alone accounted for around 80 percent of the $1.092 billion in beef purchases by the ten biggest OIC buyers from January to October 2017. 

The eight other countries that make up the top ten biggest OIC buyers were: Saudi Arabia ($105.8 million), United Arab Emirates ($42.89 million), Palestine ($22.29 million), Jordan ($12.92 million), Algeria ($12.8 million), Malaysia ($10.59 million), Libya ($9.54 million) and Lebanon ($6.68 million). 

Brazil exported $4.929 billion of beef for the first ten months of this year. 

CHICKEN

The ten OIC countries that bought the most chicken meat from Brazil in 2016 accounted for 37 percent of the South American country's total chicken exports by volume in the same year, according to Salaam Gateway calculation of data from industry body ABPA's 2017 annual report. 

Saudi Arabia's imports alone made up 46 percent of the OIC's ten biggest buyers of Brazilian chicken in 2016. 

The nine other countries that make up the top ten biggest OIC buyers were: UAE (301,645 tons), Kuwait (108,503 tons), Egypt (97,203 tons), Oman (81,936 tons), Iraq (71,862 tons), Qatar (71,292 tons), Yemen (64,200 tons), Jordan (37,846 tons) and Libya (37,147). 

Brazil exported 4,383,898 tons of chicken meat to the world in 2016, equivalent to $4.384 billion, according to ABPA. 

BRF and JBS are market leaders, ranked first and second respectively. 

The ABPA annual report does not provide a breakdown of the value of Brazil's chicken exports to each country.
